Around 140 residents and day service users from more than 25 Cygnet Social Care services across the country were supported by more than 180 staff in what has become a key moment in the Cygnet calendar – an event which focuses on fun, inclusive entertainment and engagement across a variety of care settings.
With a range of activities and live entertainment on offer, the event provides opportunities for residents and day service users, as well as Cygnet colleagues, to connect in a relaxed and inclusive environment.
The sun shone as guests got stuck into activities including a silent disco, spa treatments and aromatherapy, face painting, a photo booth, bouncy castles and slides, as well as a beach-themed bar.
Live music kept the festival atmosphere going throughout the day, including special guest performances from Langdale House resident, Bev, and Broughton Lodge resident, Owen, who were both fresh from the stage after performing at Cygnet Social Care’s Got Talent the week before.
Another highlight was a show-stopping Elvis Presley tribute act. Attendees sang and danced along to classic hits, with one individual saying it was the part of the festival they had been looking forward to the most.
The event also featured a charity tombola and a popular human fruit machine, giving attendees the opportunity to win prizes while raising money for charity.
Cate Ball, Regional Director for Social Care in the East Midlands, said: “The day was another fabulous event for the people we support and the teams that care for them. It’s wonderful to see the people we support meet new friends, try different activities and enjoy that festival atmosphere in a way that works for them.
“Thank you to everyone who helped organise the day, run stalls and support people to attend and take part.
“A special thank you from me to Guy Churchill, Administrator at Conifers, and Penny Robinson, Service Manager at Conifers and Marion House. I could not organise the event without them.
“Thanks as always to all of our East Midlands Managers and MDT for putting on activities for everyone to enjoy. We would also like to thank Lorna Hyden, Chef at Toller Road, for assisting Guy in making scrumptious afternoon tea boxes for our corporate guests.
“We would also like to thank the event’s sponsors, GPR Construction and Lightwire Electrical for their generous support in helping to make the festival possible.”
Gareth Williams, Cygnet Social Care CEO, added: “Events like our Cygnet Social Care Sensory Festival and Social Care’s Got Talent are highlights of the year for the people we support and our colleagues.
“At Cygnet we are passionate about going the extra mile to deliver the best experiences possible to our residents and service users.
“We ensure that our events are inclusive, accessible and engaging – providing a safe and supportive space for everyone to enjoy the type of activities that many of us take for granted.”
Cygnet’s Social Care Sensory Festival demonstrates how colleagues support individuals to work towards their personal goals, build confidence and make the most of every opportunity available to them.
