Coming into hospital can feel like a big step, and we want to make it as comfortable and welcoming as possible for you. Bringing a few familiar things from home can help you feel more settled during your stay.

You may wish to bring:

• Comfortable clothing for daytime and night-time
• Toiletries and any personal care items you use regularly
• Books, journals, or other comforting personal items
• Your mobile phone and charger
• Any prescribed medication, in its original packaging

Before you arrive, our team will talk you through what to bring and what to leave at home, so you can feel fully prepared. We’re here to make sure you have everything you need to feel safe, supported and at ease.

Our hospitals are designed to be safe, calm, and nurturing spaces where you can focus on your recovery. Cygnet Churchill, Cygnet Godden Green and Cygnet Hospital Harrogate each offer comfortable, modern environments with thoughtful touches that promote healing and peace of mind.

Consultations are offered at the above hospitals with one of our expert Consultant Psychiatrists. Giving you the opportunity to take a tour of the inpatient environment and meet the teams.

You’ll have your own en-suite bedroom, bright communal areas to socialise in, and quiet spaces when needed. There are beautiful gardens, therapy rooms, and access to activities designed to help you recover and gain confidence.

We also know how important nourishing food is for both body and mind. Our dedicated chefs prepare fresh, healthy, and delicious meals every day, with menus that change regularly and are adapted to your personal tastes and dietary needs.

We understand that the people who care about you are an essential part of your recovery. Family, partners, and close friends often play a vital role in helping you recover and stay well after you leave hospital.

Where it’s helpful, with your consent, we encourage loved ones to be involved in your care, whether through family meetings, regular updates, invitations to ward rounds or supportive conversations. We also provide guidance to help them better understand your journey and how best to support you at home.

At Cygnet, we believe recovery is most powerful when it’s shared, and we’ll do all we can to include those who matter most to you in a way that feels right for you.

Your recovery journey is unique to you, but it’s also important that we can see how you’re progressing and celebrate your successes along the way.

From your very first day, we’ll work with you to set meaningful, achievable goals that reflect what you want from treatment. Your care team will regularly review your progress using recognised clinical measures, your own reflections, and feedback from our clinical team and loved ones (if you wish).

This helps us make sure you’re receiving the right support, at the right pace, and that you feel ready and confident as you move towards discharge.

Leaving hospital is an important milestone and we’ll make sure you don’t face it alone. Before you leave, your care team will create a personalised aftercare plan that supports your ongoing wellbeing and helps you maintain the progress you’ve made.

Cygnet discharge plan is a patient-centred process that begins at admission, with the goal of ensuring a smooth and safe recovery. The plan involves our multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and focuses on your physical, psychological, and social needs.

This plan may include:

• Advice on managing triggers and maintaining wellness
• Discharge letter to your GP if you have given consent for us to share your information
• Support and information for your family or carers if you have given your consent for them to be involved in your care

Our aim is for you to feel confident, connected and supported as you continue your recovery beyond hospital.

We’re always here to help guide you to the right resources and support when you need it.

We sincerely hope your experience with us is positive. Your wellbeing is at the centre of everything we do and your feedback helps us keep improving. However, we understand that sometimes things don’t go as expected. If you’re unhappy with any aspect of your care, please let us know. You can raise your concern with any member of staff or speak directly with the Hospital Manager. We’ll listen, take your concerns seriously, and work with you to put things right. Alternatively, you can contact us by visiting our feedback page.
