Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke Race for Life

A team of service users and staff from Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke recently took part in ‘Race for Life’ in Weston-Super-Mare to raise money for Cancer Research. The race took part on the evening of July 8th on the beach and along the pier. The sun was shining as our volunteers set off from the start line, accompanied by a sea of pink wigs, ribbons, and even a choir, who sang their way around the track!

The staff and service users met before the race to have a team warm-up with the other groups running the race, dressed themselves in bright pink ribbon and prepared themselves for the 5 kilometre race. They split into three groups: runners, joggers and walkers and got ready at the start line. All participants finished the race, and have raised a total of £705 so far (and still counting…).

Hannah, a service user, described the event as, ‘good fun and good teambuilding’. One of the staff members commented, ‘The first three kilometres were the hardest, then we got into the swing of things. When I got to the finish line, the rest of the team were there to cheer me on’. Another runner said, ’It was really nice running along Weston pier’.

The team finished the run around 8pm and after some group photos, and collecting their medals, they headed back to Kewstoke in the minibus to celebrate their efforts!
