
Teams and individuals from Nottinghamshire and Leicester have been shortlisted across multiple categories, highlighting their passion, creativity, and dedication to delivering outstanding care and support for people with learning disabilities and autism.
In Nottinghamshire, Elston House in Newark and Long Eaton Day Service have both been named as finalists.
Elston House – Care Home Activity Organiser Award finalist

At Elston House, Activities Co-ordinator Jess Gray has been shortlisted in the Care Home Activity Organiser category, recognising her exceptional work in creating engaging, inclusive, and needs-led activities that make a real difference to residents’ lives.
Jess said: “I was surprised at the nomination but feel so proud to be named a finalist. To be able to help create memories for our residents that will last a lifetime and support them to gain more independence is something I work hard towards.
“Seeing our residents achieve their goals and thrive is so rewarding. Being nominated feels as though all of the hard work I have put in over the last two years is recognised and I am so grateful.”
Long Eaton Day Services – Care Team Award finalist

The Long Eaton Day Services team has been shortlisted in the Care Team category, recognised for their teamwork, leadership, and commitment to person-centred care.
Team Leader Cara Turner said: “This award is acknowledgement of our dedicated hard work and skills that have been noticed and appreciated by our peers. It’s rewarding to know that we are making a difference to the individuals in our care and that this doesn’t go unnoticed.
“It boosts morale and motivates us to continue providing the highest quality care.”
Toller Road – Two finalists
At Toller Road in Leicester, two dedicated staff members have also reached the finals.

Chef Lorna Hyden has been shortlisted in the Care Home Cook of the Year category, which celebrates excellence in food and nutrition within care settings. Lorna has been recognised for creating nutritious and enjoyable dining experiences that reflect residents’ needs and preferences.
Lorna said: “After the surprise of being nominated, I felt it was a huge achievement and compliment. I have been with Toller Road for five years now and I love my job.
“I work with an amazing team who support each other and always want to make a difference. We take pride in creating healthy, enjoyable meals and making food fun for everyone at the service.”

Support Worker Rodney Ferguson has been shortlisted in the Putting People First category, celebrating his commitment to empowering individuals to take greater control of their own support.
Service Manager Stuart Powell said: “All of us at Cygnet Social Care are incredibly proud of both Lorna and Rodney for being shortlisted for such prestigious national awards. Their passion, commitment, and kindness shine through in everything they do. It’s wonderful to see their hard work and dedication to our residents recognised in this way.”
The Great British Care Awards celebrate excellence across the care sector, showcasing individuals and teams who demonstrate outstanding dedication, innovation, and compassion.
Regional winners will be announced later this year, with national winners to be revealed at a gala event in 2026.
