Cygnet Maple House, a 16-bed mental health hospital for women on Kneeton Road in East Bridgford, will be raising funds for The Friary throughout the year.
The charity aids homeless and vulnerable adults to rebuild their lives through practical and health services. The Friary offers advice, food parcels, clothing and emotional support to those in Nottinghamshire.
The Cygnet Health Care service decided to fundraise for the local charity following the success of its 2025 fundraiser for 4Louis, a baby loss charity, which saw over £2,000 raised.
Andrew Hemmington-Page, Interim Hospital Manager at Cygnet Maple House, explained: “The Friary was chosen as our charity of the year by our service users. It is close to home and a cause that the whole service feels really passionate about.
“Our staff and patients really want to give something back to society so this year-long fundraiser is our way to raise as much money as possible. We want to make a big impact and not just be a drop in the ocean for a big charity but instead help a smaller charity that will really benefit from our efforts.”
The Cygnet Health Care service’s fundraiser kicked off with a fancy-dress walk around Gedling Country Park on 27th February, raising £350.
Staff, service users, off-duty nurses and a four-legged friend – Pippa – braved the rain and mud in the spirit of charity.
Andrew said: “It was a lot of fun, despite the weather. The fundraiser, organised by our Activity Coordinator Nicola Bicknell, was a great chance for us to engage with the local community in the park and raise awareness of The Friary and our future fundraisers.
“At Cygnet Maple House, we have always found that charity events bring our staff and the individuals we support together as they work towards a shared goal. It’s an opportunity to build on our planning skills and team work, which helps promote independence and increase confidence.”
One patient said: “I’m so proud of myself for going and taking part. It’s not something I would normally get involved with.”
Fundraising efforts will continue throughout the year with other events planned including a car boot sale.
