For the first time, four staff members at Cygnet Manor, a high dependency complex care service for men with learning disabilities and complex mental health needs in Shirebrook, Nottinghamshire, have been nominated for the National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards.
Support Worker, Ryan Havenhand has been nominated for the Newcomer Award, Nurse Associate, Megan Bradley for the Frontline Leader Award, Holly Morell for the Complex Support Worker Award, Kelly Shortt for the Manager Award and the whole Cygnet Manor team has been nominated for the Breaking Down Barriers Award.
The National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards were set up to celebrate people who provide excellent care and support to people with learning disabilities and autism. Shortlisted nominees are invited to attend an interview with an independent panel of judges, before attending a gala event in July when the winners will be announced.
Kelly Shortt, Hospital Manager said: “This is an opportunity to celebrate the excellent work that people do within the service and to recognise the positive work of the staff team.”
She added: ‘It’s been quite tough within the industry for the past few years, but we are really proud to be highlighting the positive. Just being nominated as a finalist has already improved the team morale and to be recognised externally through the awards will be even better.”
Kristy Summers, Psychologist worked with the team to identify and nominate individuals to highlight and celebrate the “excellent work” at Cygnet Manor. She said: “I only joined Cygnet in August last year and immediately I noticed how much care the patients received and how everybody is so attentive to individualised needs and thought that this quality of work needed to be officially recognised.”
The National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards will take place across three regions in 2022. The England and Scotland awards gala will take place at the ICC in Birmingham on 8th July. More information about the awards can be found here.
