Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke Donates Minibus to Support Seagulls in the Community

Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke has donated a nine-seater minibus to Seagulls in the Community, the charitable arm of Weston-super-Mare AFC, helping expand inclusive activities and outreach across the town.

The donation from the mental health hospital will support the charity’s expanding programme of grassroots, educational, and wellbeing-focused initiatives delivered throughout Weston-super-Mare. Access to transport will allow the team to reach more individuals, remove barriers to participation, and deliver community sessions in new locations.

Alex Crowther, Director of Weston-super-Mare AFC, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Cygnet for their generous donation of a minibus to Seagulls in the Community. This support will make a huge difference to our community engagement.

“Their commitment to helping us grow and connect with our community is truly appreciated.”

The donation builds on Cygnet’s role as the first Principal Partner of Seagulls in the Community, a partnership launched in January 2025. The collaboration helped to support a wide range of projects, including Weston Ability, a Pan-Disability Football Club offering opportunities for children and adults with disabilities and additional needs.

The partnership also helped to fund a new Community Manager role, dedicated to expanding the charity’s programme of youth activities, education programmes, and sports projects, benefitting people of all ages and backgrounds across Weston-super-Mare.

Dave Smart, General Manager of Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke, said: “We are proud to support Seagulls in the Community with this donation and help them to deliver the fantastic work they do to improve opportunities, inclusion and wellbeing across Weston-super-Mare. As a local mental health hospital, we see every day the importance of connection, activity and community engagement in supporting people’s recovery and wellbeing. Donating the minibus is another way for us to give back to the community we serve, and we are delighted to help the charity reach even more people.”

Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke, located on Beach Road, is a 71-bed mental health hospital for adults, providing emergency admission services for men and women, as well as a rehabilitation pathway for women, including a specialist service for personality disorder.
