Cygnet Acer Clinic patients bake off for animal charity

Our mental health hospital in Chesterfield rose to the occasion with a bake sale that raised much-needed funds for a local animal charity.

Located on Worksop Road, Cygnet Acer Clinic is a 28-bed service for women with personality disorder or acute mental health needs.

Staff and residents whisked, kneaded and baked a variety of sweet treats to sell to their family and friends, raising £100 for Chesterfield Animal Rescue.

The charity rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes cats and dogs from across the local area and relies entirely on donations and fundraising to continue its work.

The Cygnet Health Care service has been raising funds for the charity since the start of the year and chose a bake sale as their fundraiser for February.

Abi Hague, Clinical Manager at Cygnet Acer Clinic, said: “The bake sale was a huge success and was a great way of getting everyone involved. We had a lovely day selling and eating the goods, whilst raising money for a good cause.

“Our service users were very involved in the bake sale and made some delicious treats. One individual we support is a particularly skilled baker who regularly makes us cakes and brownies. She worked really hard in some of our group baking sessions in the days leading up to the bake sale.”

The sweet treats included a traditional school cake, brownies, chocolate blondies and a cheesecake.

“Each month, we will be hosting a different type of fundraiser for Chesterfield Animal Rescue,” explained Abi.

“Fundraising for a cause the individuals we support genuinely care about gives them a meaningful way to contribute, work together and make a positive difference beyond the hospital environment.”

So far, the Cygnet Health Care service has raised £230 for charity and the fundraising activities will continue throughout the year with the likes of a fancy-dress competition, a sponsored hike and an auction coming up.
