The awards ceremony took place on 5 December in Manchester and recognised individuals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to improving the lives of people with learning disabilities and autism.
Reflecting on her recognition, Roisin said: “I was very surprised and did not expect this at all. For the first time, I felt very proud and happy that I was recognised.
“I love helping people with learning disabilities and mental health needs. I’m committed to advocating for their rights, well-being, and independence. This recognition encourages me to keep striving for excellence in every interaction and every decision. It’s great to be able to make a big difference to their lives.”
The Stars of Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards recognised Roisin for her “extraordinary dedication and lasting impact at [Cygnet] Elms.”
Roisin joined Cygnet Elms, a high dependency care service for women with learning disabilities, over 13 years ago. Located on Streetly Road, the service is part of the Cygnet Health Care division.
Roisin said: “I fought long and hard to become a nurse. Despite ups and downs, I fulfilled the promise I gave my brother and became a nurse. I came to England to train in 1999. I wouldn’t change my passion for the world.
“I am proud to work at Cygnet Elms with such a brilliant team. I am beyond thankful for everyone’s support. This means everything to me.”
Sarah Jenks, Hospital Manager at the Cygnet Health Care service, congratulated Roisin on her recognition: “Well done to Roisin for being highly commended for the Brilliant Learning Disability Nurse award. It is a testament to the level of compassionate care that you give every day to all of the individuals we support at Cygnet Elms. We are very proud of you and you truly deserve this recognition.”
