Nurse Hannah Stewart and Sarah welcomed staff and fellow residents on its official opening day, with Sarah proudly cutting the ribbon.
Several others involved in the project proudly took the reins, putting on their aprons and representing the shop during its first official opening.
Service Manager Sarah Patterson explained the importance of the new shop: “The pop-up shop was created by the people we support, for the people we support. We developed this project after listening to their ideas and ensuring their voices were at the heart of the service.
“When the idea of opening a shop was suggested, staff immediately embraced it and worked alongside everyone involved to help bring the vision to life.
“The people we support played a leading role throughout the project. One individual used their skills to make homemade curtains for the shop, while another enjoyed shopping for the items that would be sold.
“There was a real buzz and excitement in the air among both residents and staff. We saw excellent teamwork, independence and problem-solving as people organised themselves and even swapped what they called their ‘shifts’ when they had other commitments.
“The project demonstrated genuine ownership, empowerment and choice, with those involved taking control and leading the way. It was a fantastic example of people being supported to turn an idea into a successful and meaningful reality.”
