People supported at Langdale House team up with local community

Langdale House residents rallied together with a local tennis club to encourage connection-building with the community and learning new skills.

Located on Gledholt Road in Huddersfield, Langdale House is a residential care service which supports adults with learning disabilities, part of Cygnet’s Social Care division.

Staff and individuals supported at Langdale House were recently invited by Grove Tennis Club to try their hand at a game or two.

Members of the tennis club took to the courts to help the people we support practice their tennis skills.

Sandra Delaney, Deputy Manager at Langdale House, said: “Our residents thoroughly enjoyed the day and loved being able to try out different tennis activities, meet new people and most importantly share lots of laughter together.

“They loved doing something fun and different outside of their usual routine. There was plenty of energy and encouragement and an all-round supportive environment.

“The day was really valuable as it gave the individuals we support an opportunity to be active, socialise with the local community and take part in new experiences. It helped to build their confidence, wellbeing and sense of belonging.”

To cool down after non-stop rallies, participants enjoyed drinks and snacks provided by the club whilst enjoying each other’s company.

Sandra said: “We received such a warm welcome from the club and the refreshments provided were certainly appreciated. We are very thankful to the Grove Tennis Club for their generosity and are already looking forward to our next visit.”

Grove Tennis Club highlighted the success of the day: “We invited residents and carers on this sunny morning to join us for tennis and treats. This was a fabulous opportunity to open up our courts and we were delighted to see such enthusiasm and all the residents had a go! There were lots of laughs and cheers along the way.”
