Oakhurst Lodge Senior Support Worker’s Care Award Shortlisting

Maydue Mundia

Congratulations to Maydue Mundia, Senior Support Worker at Oakhurst Lodge, who has been shortlisted in the Care Home Frontline Leaders Award category for the South East region at the Great British Care Awards.

The award recognises supervisors, senior care workers, team leaders and first-time managers who demonstrate a strong commitment to improving care and support within their teams.

The winners will be announced at the Great British Care Awards South East ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Brighton on Friday 20 November.

Oakhurst Lodge is an eight-bed residential service, run by Cygnet Social Care, and supports adults with learning disabilities and autism.

The submission for Maydue, made by colleagues, said: “Maydue is an exceptional leader, respectful and open minded. She ensures that tasks are completed to a high standard, ensuring the safety of our residents and the home in general. With her, you know everything is in place.

“Maydue is particularly passionate about creating a positive environment for both colleagues and residents. She believes that supporting staff well directly contributes to better outcomes for the people they care for, often reminding colleagues that ‘a happy member of staff means a happy service user’”.

Colleagues say that Maydue’s approach has helped create a culture where people feel comfortable asking questions, challenging practices and seeking support when they are unsure.

“She always encourages people to do the right thing and, when in doubt, reminds us of all the channels available to help us understand better,” one colleague said.

“She always prioritises everyone’s comfort, making sure that our residents get the best person-centred care.”

For colleagues, however, her greatest achievement is the impact she has on those around her.

One colleague said: “I learnt a lot from her and the knowledge I gained shaped my career aspirations. I always try to emulate her high standards in doing my work and I find joy in knowing that it makes our home a better place to work, with staff happy and residents getting the best care.”

Another added: “I applaud her inspirational guidance, strong leadership and the ability to bring out the best in others. Her leadership elevates our team and, if one day I find myself in the senior position, I will definitely follow in her footsteps.”

“She always helps in ensuring the comfort of residents. Maydue really does have a heart of gold.”

Maydue said: “Being shortlisted is incredibly humbling and exciting. I am really grateful to be nominated, I learn a lot from my colleagues every day and we achieve so much together.

“What I enjoy most is supporting people to feel safe, valued and heard. I also enjoy mentoring the team and seeing positive outcomes for the people we support and the impact we have every day.”
