As our first two cohorts of Nurse Associates take their next steps to become Registered Nurses, we launched our next Nursing Pathway Apprenticeship with our new university partners, University College Birmingham (who kindly took these photos for us).

This cohort is a national one with 21 Cygnet staff members joining from as far afield as Durham and Darlington in the North, Maidstone in the South East, and Taunton in the South West. They are starting their journey on our Tier 1 Apprenticeship of the pathway – Assistant Practitioner, before going onwards to Nurse Associate.

Su Smith, Apprenticeship Manager, said:
“They were really lucky to start on the first day of Fresher’s Week so were able to get a feel of the university spirit and several of them have already bought their UCB hoodies and sweatshirts!

Whilst in the queue to get her sweatshirt, Jade from Maidstone told me “I can’t actually believe I am here. I always wanted to go to university and I never thought I would get the opportunity.” She said this with a huge smile on her face.

Damien from Bury said he couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity he has been given. Having started his career in the Army and logistics he is now on the Apprenticeship ladder to become a nurse.

Claire from Taunton who is our first externally recruited Apprentice and who has only been at Cygnet since 20th September could not smiling all day and was literally hopping with excitement.

I can honestly say I have not seen a Cohort so thrilled to be there.”
