Staff and the individuals they support spent a day fundraising for Children in Need, including swimming 508 lengths of a swimming pool wearing Pudsey ears.
Long Eaton Day Services supports individuals with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities and complex health needs.
In total the Cygnet Social Care service raised £185 for Children in Need, a cause close to the hearts of both staff and service users who have been previously supported by the charity.
Samantha Underwood, Activity Coordinator at Long Eaton Day Services, praised the service’s dedication to raising much-needed funds for the charity.
She said: “The fundraiser was a great success and our service was a sea of yellow with everyone wearing their Children in Need clothing. The individuals we support were involved every step of the way, which I am incredibly proud of.
“Those who swam lengths in the pool worked extremely hard, whilst also wearing the famous Pudsey ears. It was all for a good cause.”
After taking to the pool for a challenging sponsored swim, individuals supported at Long Eaton Day Services hosted a bake sale with sweet treats they had made themselves.
In the afternoon, there was a Pudsey scavenger hunt, arts and crafts and a sensory play session, giving the team a chance to reflect on their fundraising success.
Samantha said: “Charitable events are a big part of our service and are important for all of the individuals we support. Each and every one of them loves to help and support others, especially in their time of need.
“Here at Long Eaton Day Services, we all recognise the importance of Children in Need and it was a great chance to help our community. The charity also supports people to keep helping others, which aligns with our service as this is something we do every day and find massively rewarding.”
Children in Need offers a variety of support to children and young people struggling with their mental health, poverty, social inequality and family-related challenges. It also funds local community projects through partnerships with charities and organisations.
