Huddersfield MP Harpreet Uppal visits Langdale House

Harpreet Uppal recently visited Langdale House in Huddersfield to meet staff and residents and learn more about the specialist care being delivered at the service.

Langdale House, located on Gledholt Road, supports individuals with learning disabilities and is run by Cygnet Social Care.

During her visit, Harpreet Uppal, Labour MP for Huddersfield, toured the service, gaining first-hand insight into the homely environment and facilities.

She also met members of staff and residents to learn about daily life at the Cygnet Social Care service.

Speaking after her visit, Harpreet Uppal MP said: “When we talk about care, we often focus on services, funding and inspections. But during a recent visit to Langdale House, I was reminded that care is really about people.

“I met a team dedicated to creating forever homes for residents, where every individual is supported to live the life they want.”

The MP’s visit comes after Langdale House was upgraded to ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission in January 2026. Inspectors praised the service for being “exceptional at treating people with kindness, empathy and compassion” and noted that residents were “truly respected and valued as individuals.”

Harpreet continued: “Manager Laura spoke passionately about tailoring support around each person’s needs, interests and ambitions.

“One resident, who had once rarely left his accommodation, is now spending time in the garden with the support and encouragement of staff. One of the most touching things I heard was how the team had installed fairy lights outside for him to enjoy during the night because they knew he was a night owl.

“It is those acts of kindness, understanding and genuine care that make such a difference. After seeing the dedication of the staff and hearing the stories of residents, it’s easy to understand why the home has been recognised with an Outstanding CQC rating. Congratulations to them!”

Sandra Delaney, Deputy Manager at Langdale House, added: “We were delighted to welcome Harpreet Uppal to Langdale House and to have the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the incredible work our team does every day.

“Our ‘Outstanding’ CQC rating from last year was a proud moment for the staff here and to showcase our service to our MP only added to this. It was a genuine pleasure to give her a tour so she could see our impact first-hand as well as meet our dedicated team and the individuals we support.”
