Tony Miller, a nurse at Hope House in Hartlepool, and Hannah Robinson, a care worker at Hollyhurst in Darlington, have both been named as finalists in the North East region of the awards.
The Great British Care Awards celebrate excellence across the social care sector, recognising the individuals and teams who make a positive difference to people’s lives through their dedication, skills and commitment to high-quality care.
Tony Miller – Social Care Nurse Award
Tony, who works at Hope House on Hutton Avenue, has been shortlisted in the Social Care Nurse Award category.
The award recognises exceptional nurses working in social care who demonstrate outstanding person-centred care, leadership and a commitment to improving people’s lives.
For Tony, some of the most rewarding parts of his role are seeing residents grow in confidence, achieve their personal goals and enjoy experiences that may once have seemed out of reach. He also takes pride in helping colleagues develop their own skills and confidence.
Tony said: “In terms of what I enjoy most about my job, it’s often the little things that mean the most to me. Seeing residents happy, watching their confidence grow and witnessing them achieve things that perhaps once seemed out of reach is incredibly rewarding.
“For me, knowing I’ve made even a small positive difference to someone’s life is what makes the job worthwhile.
“As for being shortlisted, I must admit it came as a complete surprise, particularly as I don’t know who nominated me or what they said! I’ve never really been someone who seeks recognition for what I do, so it’s quite humbling to think that somebody has taken the time to put me forward.
“What makes it particularly meaningful is knowing that the things I genuinely enjoy doing every day may have made a difference that someone else has recognised. I’m fortunate to work alongside some wonderful colleagues and so much of what we achieve is through teamwork. I’m simply grateful to be part of that.”

Hannah Robinson – Care Home Newcomer Award
Hannah, who works at Hollyhurst on Woodland Road in Darlington, has been shortlisted in the Care Home Newcomer Award category.
The award recognises people who have recently entered the care sector and demonstrated how their skills, experiences and personal qualities can make a meaningful difference in their new role.
Hannah’s nomination reflects the importance she places on building relationships with the people she supports, helping them feel comfortable and valued, and supporting them to enjoy fulfilling lives.
Hannah said: “I am very grateful to be nominated for the Care Home Newcomer Award and it is a lovely incentive that reinforces my work in care.
“What I enjoy most about my job is seeing residents happy in my company and knowing they feel comfortable having meaningful conversations. I love getting to know each resident and helping support them out into the community, enabling them to live a fulfilling life and share moments that make them feel cared for.
“This nomination means a lot to me, and I am thankful to be recognised for something I genuinely enjoy doing. It encourages me to keep learning and I feel lucky to be part of our residents’ lives as well as a great team!”
