Jenna, together with an NHS colleague, Dr Don Brechin, won the award which recognises individuals for their inspirational work in the field of Acquired Brain Injuries. She was initially shortlisted for the prestigious award for the work she has done to encourage investment in services which support those with acquired brain injuries.
Whilst working together at the James Cook University Hospital, Dr Moffitt and Dr Brechin recognised that there were huge gaps in the treatment pathway within the North East of England. It was evident that there were some clear barriers to patients accessing all the treatment prescribed, in a timely manner and within a variety of settings to meet patient needs and geographical restrictions.
In 2019, the two doctors gathered a group of organisations and individuals within the North East of England whose focus and interests were around the provision of support, treatment and pathways for those affected by brain injuries. The aim of the group was to identify the current barriers to accessing resources for treatment and support within the region and look at possible solutions.
Dr Moffitt spearheaded the group which submitted findings and recommendations for the improvement of Neurorehabilitation services across the North East to the ICB. The project is ongoing which should see improvements made across the region.
Dr Moffitt, who has been at Cygnet Group since 2022, said: “I am so very pleased to have won this award.
“After many years of measuring unmet need for neurorehabilitation services in the north east region, it feels that we are finally gaining ground and in doing so, have created some audit tools that could be used to affect change elsewhere in the country.
“This award and the opportunity to share this work at the UKABIF conference has increased the impact we could have and I am very grateful for it.
“Thanks to my joint award winner Dr Don Brechin, Neuropsychologist at South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust, to Rachel Chamberlain, Business Development Director at Cygnet and all the other colleagues and services users who made this work possible.”
Congratulations from all of us at Cygnet Group Jenna, on this very deserving accolade.
