Dr Gbolagade Akintomide appointed as Divisional Medical Director – North Division

We are pleased to announce that Dr Gbolagade Akintomide (Akin) has been appointed as our Divisional Medical Director – North Division.

Dr Akintomide has been involved with peers in developing new healthcare services and supporting services to achieve improvements in the area of clinical care and care planning. He is a leading figure in pioneering the use of 7Cs enhanced observation protocol. 7Cs is a systemic, collaborative way of managing enhanced observation that have led to reduction in the length of restrictive continuous observation especially in the acute and psychiatric intensive care units. He won the Cygnet Medical Leader of the Year award in 2022.

Dr Akintomide is a mentor, a supervisor and a teacher. He has published papers in peer-reviewed journals in the area of narcolepsy, personality disorders, catatonia, dementia and functional assessments. He was recently elected as an executive committee member of the General Adult Faculty of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Dr Salim Matta, Cygnet Group Medical Director, said: “Akin has worked with Cygnet for eight years, during which time he has held a number of senior clinical leadership roles, including Consultant Psychiatrist, Medical Director and Regional Medical Director. For several months he has worked as our Interim Divisional Medical Director for the South and subsequently for the North, during which time he has made a significant contribution to our clinical leadership and to the quality of care we provide across our services.

“His clinical expertise, strong leadership and deep understanding of our organisation, combined with his commitment to the people we support and our colleagues, make him an excellent appointment.
