Dr Asif Bachlani appointed Divisional Medical Director

We are pleased to welcome Dr Asif Bachlani as Divisional Medical Director for our Private Services, Cygnet Assessment Services.

Welcoming Dr Bachlani, our Group Clinical Director Dr Jon Van Niekerk said: “Asif is a Consultant Psychiatrist with extensive experience in neurodevelopmental assessments, including ADHD and autism, across both the NHS and the independent sector. He brings considerable expertise in diagnostic pathways and multidisciplinary assessment models, as well as a strong interest in digital innovation within healthcare.

“In this role, he will provide clinical leadership for Cygnet Assessment Services as we continue to develop high-quality, accessible assessment pathways and further strengthen this important area of our service provision.”

Dr Bachlani brings with him an extensive and distinguished career across adult psychiatry, with a remarkable breadth of clinical, leadership, and digital expertise within the private healthcare arena.

Dr Bachlani graduated in 2002 from the St Bartholomew’s and Royal London Medical School with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and BSc in Clinical Medicine, and completed his psychiatric training in Hampshire and Dorset achieving MRCPsych in 2008; he also completed his CCT in General Adult Psychiatry with sub-speciality in Liaison Psychiatry in 2011.

Dr Bachlani joins us from the Priory where he was the Clinical lead for the ADHD and Autism Pathway and he developed the private diagnostic Priory autism pathway. He has previously held a number of highly regarded clinical, managerial and digital positions across the NHS and independent sector, including Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO), Clinical Director, Associate Non-Executive Director (NED) for Kent and Medway Mental Health Trust and Vice Chair of the NHS Benchmarking Mental Health, Autism and Learning Disability Reference Group.

Dr Bachlani continues to serve in a lead data and digital role with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, where he contributes to shaping the College’s digital strategy. In 2019, Dr Bachlani was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych), and in 2024 he was awarded UK Psychiatrist of the Year (RCPsych) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to digital psychiatry, population mental health, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
