Cygnet has been shortlisted for:
- Hospital Group of the Year
- Best in Healthcare Outcomes
The recognition follows an exceptionally competitive judging process, with more than 700 entries submitted across this year’s award categories.
The LaingBuisson Awards celebrate excellence and innovation across the UK health and social care sector. Cygnet’s two shortlistings recognise the continued commitment to delivering high-quality mental healthcare and achieving meaningful outcomes for the people it supports.
In the last 12 months, 88% of Cygnet service users achieved improved outcomes on discharge, while 95% of adults and 98% of children and young people receiving CAMHS care were discharged towards community settings. Every service user discharged from Cygnet’s eating disorder services moved into more independent living.
Cygnet also achieved a 17% reduction in the average length of stay across its health care services, helping people to return home sooner.
Professor Tony Romero, CEO of Cygnet Group, said: “To be shortlisted in two categories from more than 700 entries is a tremendous achievement and a powerful endorsement of the care delivered by our colleagues every day.
“Returning as a finalist for Hospital Group of the Year after winning the award in 2025 is a particular honour. It demonstrates that, while we are immensely proud of what we have achieved, we have continued to evolve, innovate and raise our ambitions for the people who depend on our services.
“I am especially pleased that we have also been shortlisted for Best in Healthcare Outcomes. Outcomes are the truest measure of our impact, whether somebody can return home, regain their independence, reconnect with family or move forward with greater hope and confidence.
“These shortlistings belong to our colleagues, service users, residents, carers and partners. By working together and listening to lived experience, we are delivering care that makes a lasting and meaningful difference.”
Cygnet’s shortlisted submission highlighted the experiences of those receiving care and their families. During 2025, 3,150 service users completed discharge surveys, producing an average experience score of 4.4 out of five. Feedback from 682 carers resulted in an average satisfaction score of 4.5 out of five.
Co-production remains central to the organisation’s approach. During the year, 50 Experts by Experience worked in partnership with Cygnet and completed 1,300 visits to hospitals. Our People’s Councils held more than 1,000 meetings across our services, giving service users, residents and family carers greater opportunity to raise priorities and shape how services operate.
The shortlistings also recognise a period of substantial investment. Cygnet invested £132 million in its mental healthcare infrastructure, opening seven hospitals, creating more than 230 specialist beds and over 1,000 new jobs, while refurbishing a further 181 beds.
Its award-winning Social Hubs programme expanded to 35 hospitals, providing co-produced environments designed to reduce isolation and encourage activity, connection and engagement. The hubs have contributed to reductions in incidents of between 25% and 35%, alongside improved staff wellbeing and engagement.
The winners of the 2026 LaingBuisson Awards will be announced at a ceremony and dinner at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London on Thursday 19 November.
