Located on Boathorse Road, Kidsgrove, the hospital provides care and support for women with mental health needs. The Cygnet Health Care service raised £457 for Macmillan by hosting a bake sale on Friday 25 September.
The charity provides emotional, financial, practical and physical support to people living with cancer. Macmillan also offers vital cancer services as well as researches and campaigns to achieve better cancer care.
“This was our service’s first Macmillan Coffee Morning – what a fantastic success it was!” explained Jessica Elsley, Occupational Therapy Assistant at Cygnet Hospital Kidsgrove.
“We wanted to get involved in this nationwide event as I think we all know someone who has received a cancer diagnosis. So supporting a charity like Macmillan which cares for our loved ones really resonates with a lot of people.”
Individuals supported at the Cygnet Health Care service played a vital role in the fundraising, working alongside staff to bake a variety of sweet treats such as cookies, a Victoria sponge and cupcakes in the Macmillan colours.
One individual supported on Burleigh Ward, which provides specialised support for women with personality disorders, made a banner to draw attention to the coffee morning initiative.
Jessica said: “Our service users enjoy baking, so this was a good opportunity for them to get involved in planning and preparation, which are vital transferable skills.
“It was wonderful to see so many staff and patients getting involved, coming together and enjoying a well-deserved sweet treat.”
