Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke patients Bake Off for children’s charity

Patients at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke turned up the fundraising heat with a bake sale that raised much-needed funds for a children’s charity.

Located on Beach Road, Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke is a 71-bed mental health service for men and women, run by Cygnet Health Care.

The Kewstoke-based service recently hosted its annual Children in Need fundraiser with a bake sale, raising £320.

Children in Need is a UK charity that offers support for children and young people struggling with their mental health, poverty, social inequality and family-related challenges.

Rachel Moig, Senior Medical Secretary at Cygnet Health Care, reflected on the service’s fundraising achievement.

She said: “It was a very successful fundraiser and so many people across our service got involved to raise an almighty amount for this great cause. Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke has been supporting Children in Need for many years and we always look forward to our bake sale.

“Lots of our staff and the individuals we support at our service have children so it’s a charity close to many people’s hearts. We want to give back to children who are less fortunate than our own.”

Individuals supported at the Cygnet Health Care service worked hard to prepare their own sweet treats to sell for the charity. The on-site farm maintained by service users, a recent addition to the service, also proved useful, providing produce to make a carrot cake.

Rachel said: “It was great to see our service users get involved by baking, promoting and selling the cakes. The fundraiser united our staff and service users in a positive community spirit and we all came together for a good cause.

“It was also a brilliant opportunity for the individuals we support to take part in something meaningful and share ideas on how we can build on our fundraising success next year.”
