As a corporate partner of UKABIF (United Kingdom Acquired Brain Injury Forum), Cygnet has long supported the charity’s mission to raise awareness about acquired brain injuries and advocate for improved treatment pathways. This partnership has proven particularly valuable in the West Midlands, where Cygnet staff work alongside other brain injury professionals to organise quarterly events through the West Midlands Acquired Brain Injury Forum (WeMABIF).
The regional forum plays a crucial role in localising UKABIF’s national work, ensuring that professionals in the West Midlands have access to relevant information about local services and support networks.
Since taking the helm of WeMABIF four years ago, Rachael Chamberlain, Cygnet’s Business Development Director for Neuro, has helped to create a regional group that is a hub for knowledge sharing and networking. The events are well-attended, now attracting 40-50 professionals at each quarterly event.
“Our goal has always been to create an inclusive space where everyone involved in brain injury care can connect and learn from each other,” explains Rachael Chamberlain. “By bringing together clinicians, therapists, case managers, and support workers, we’re strengthening the network of care available to those affected by brain injuries in the region.”
Hosted at various venues across Birmingham, WeMABIF meetings feature a diverse range of speakers addressing critical topics in brain injury rehabilitation and support.
Over the past four years, the forum has welcomed experts speaking on subjects ranging from emerging therapies and rehabilitation techniques to navigational tools for complex care pathways and support for families during the recovery journey.
With upcoming events scheduled for June, September, and November, WeMABIF continues to expand its reach and impact. These gatherings not only provide valuable learning opportunities but also strengthen the collaborative relationships essential for improving care coordination across the region.
As a strategic partner of the UK Acquired Brain Injury Forum and supporter of the Time for Change agenda, Cygnet Health Care is also pleased to share the latest report which UKABIF have produced for the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Acquired Brain Injury: ‘The Cost of Acquired Brain Injury to the UK Economy.’ This report estimates wellbeing costs associated with ABI stand at a staggering £91.5 billion.”
