A net total of nine new beds will be added to overall operational capacity. Four of these new beds will be added at ground floor level to the male acute care ward. The remaining five new beds will provide further resources to the specialist locked challenging behaviour service for older males.
This project has been developed to provide additional operational capacity at Cygnet Hospital Wyke as a result of increasing demand from the NHS for the established services provided, in order to support national strategies to bring these important facilities closer to the point of local need. Cygnet Hospital Wyke provides an important operation of regional significance which is currently delivered via three distinct forms of service providing a total of 46 beds.
The proposed development has been carefully designed to minimise the impact upon the existing care environment during the construction process. The established character of the current hospital building will be complemented using traditional load bearing masonry for the extension. The new internal environment will provide a spacious and comfortable environment that will be fully compliant with all regulatory standards and expectations.
Tenders for the project are expected to be issued to four identified regional building contractors by 24th July 2015, with the successful main contractor to be appointed by the start of September 2015. Subject to final confirmations, the completed extension should be available for registration and first admissions during April 2016.
