West Midlands Mental Health Workers get Pretty Muddy for Charity

Staff at Cygnet Hospital Oldbury in the West Midlands battled through mud to raise much-needed funds for a cancer charity.

Located on Salop Drive, Cygnet Hospital Oldbury is a 27-bed PICU and acute mental health service for women in Oldbury, run by Cygnet Health Care.

A determined team of staff at the Cygnet Group service participated in a 5-kilometre muddy run to fundraise for Cancer Research, raising £310.

Cancer Research helps to save lives by preventing, controlling and curing cancer. The charity helps to fund scientists, doctors and nurses to work towards prevention, diagnosis and treatments to help beat cancer sooner.

After experiencing a false alarm cancer scare last year, Rachael Huxley, Receptionist at Cygnet Hospital Oldbury, motivated her colleagues to take part in the muddy challenge.

She said: “I am really pleased that we have fundraised this much for such an important charity. Our motivation as a team was really personal and deepened our commitment to supporting Cancer Research. The funds we have raised are vital as the charity profoundly impacts so many people worldwide.”

The Sandwell Pretty Muddy took place on Saturday 21 June and saw participants battle through mud, water and an army-style obstacle course at Sandwell Valley Park in West Bromwich.

Rachael said: “It was a really rewarding day as it allowed us to unite together whilst showing our support for Cancer Research. The challenge was invigorating and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The team’s enthusiasm and camaraderie was evident throughout and we’ve decided to make this an annual fundraising tradition.

“At Cygnet Hospital Oldbury, we continuously strive to contribute to charitable causes and our collective efforts over the past few months really show our dedication to making a positive impact. Cygnet Health Care has really inspired us to create more memories together while raising funds for essential causes.”
