Each year a significant number of military veterans suffer mental health issues as a result of their active service. That’s why we are supporting Walking With the Wounded’s (WWTW) festive fundraiser, Walking Home For Christmas.
Operations Director, Barry Swire, who himself is a former Royal Navy Officer, will be walking from the WWTW regional office in Manchester to Cygnet Hospital Bury on Monday 13 December 2021.
Walking With The Wounded gets those who’ve served – and their families – back on their feet. The charity supports veterans with employment, mental health, care coordination and volunteering, helping save jobs, homes, relationships and lives for the veterans who are struggling since leaving the military.

Did you know?
Whilst the majority of people who serve in the Armed Forces transition back into society without an issue, there are some who find the path is difficult.
At Cygnet we aim to play a part in the rehabilitation of ex-military to help them to be able to live meaningful and fulfilled lives once they leave military service. Earlier this year, Cygnet received Bronze certification for the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme.
The scheme recognises commitment and support from UK employers for defence personnel and their families.
Barry Swire, Operations Director, said: “Following a fantastic 27-year career in the Royal Navy, I am proud to be part or an organisation that recognises the veterans and wider Armed Forces community.
Military service brings with it a very transferable skillset but sometimes employers may not recognise this and these individuals may be overlooked. I am immensely proud to be part of Cygnet who have made a commitment to be Armed Forces friendly.”
