The new 31 bed service will have two wards; Crocus Ward, for acute admissions and Burleigh Ward, a highly specialised Personality Disorder service. Both wards will aim to treat women in a safe and comfortable environment and support them to safely progress along their recovery journey.
Victor Mudarikwa, Operations Director for the region said; “We are currently in the midst of a mental health crisis and Cygnet is determined to play its part in ensuring people get access to the right treatment, at the right time.
“Stoke-on-Trent has higher rates of mental ill-health than the country average; a gap that has been widening over the last decade. The addition of this new service in the region will support women struggling with their mental health and is part of Cygnet’s ongoing commitment to providing state-of-the-art services which deliver compassionate, safe, quality care that meets the unique needs of those who need it.
“Our new hospital will help keep women from the West Midlands closer to home and bring care and treatment closer to their family and friends. When fully open in 2025, Cygnet Hospital Kidsgrove will be a fantastic addition to our existing mental health services, and it will make an enormous difference to those who may have otherwise needed to have travelled further distances for their care and treatment.
“We have worked with former patients, families, staff and local people to ensure we have a brilliant new hospital which will provide a therapeutic environment where wellness is at the forefront. It will provide a safe and comfortable environment to promote successful recovery as well as giving our staff the facility they need to provide the most effective care and support.
“We want Cygnet Hospital Kidsgrove to become a beacon of hope for positive mental health and wellbeing and we are excited to see the impact it will have on so many lives.”
