Cygnet’s Quality Improvement (QI) Conference Celebrating Success Event

On Tuesday 30th April, Cygnet’s Quality Improvement (QI) team were proud to host a webinar celebrating the success of our QI programme. The conference was opened by David Wilmott, Group Executive Director of Nursing, who welcomed Cygnet colleagues, people we support and partners from across the country, representing our Health and Social Care services.

David said: “As Director of Nursing at Cygnet, I have been proud to witness the tangible improvements in clinical care resulting from the successful implementation of our Quality Improvement Strategy. Our dedicated Quality Improvement Team has gone from strength to strength since the establishment and launch of our Quality Improvement Strategy in 2021.”

First speaker of the day was, Cygnet’s Head of Quality Improvement, Daniel King. Daniel’s presentation was Celebrating Success from our QI Journey and set the scene for the rest of the day.

Daniel said, “I have had the privilege to lead on the introduction of the Quality Improvement Programme across Cygnet, supporting the culture of the organisation to develop into a learning focussed one, delivering the highest standards of care through a sustainable cycle of continuous improvement.

“The progress we have made in our Quality Improvement Journey over the past 3 years has enabled us to work with teams across the organisation, supporting them to make improvements for the benefit of all at Cygnet. I’m delighted to be able to support some of our recently completed projects to present at this event to showcase their outstanding work and to allow collaboration with sites across Cygnet to share learning and make their own improvements from the projects showcased today.”

The day was inspirational with colleagues and people we support presenting on their own QI projects, how they went about them and what impact this has had on everyone involved.

The projects showcased included;

  • Residents at staff at The Orchards residential service in Essex who shared their experience of improving a local bus stop they had noticed was neglected and run down.
  • Cygnet Appletree a PICU & Acute hospital in County Durham discussed the implementation of the 7Cs of nursing standards, a project which was coproduced alongside Cygnet Victoria House and Cygnet Hospital Hexham.
  • Cygnet Churchill staff supported a Clinical Forensic Psychology Student to present about, The QI Journey of a Student.
  • The Value of QI in Health Care and The Value of QI in Social Care were each presented by our regional Operations Directors.

Closing the event was Cygnet’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Tony Romero who thanked colleagues who had joined and been a part the conference. He acknowledged the contribution of all the individuals and teams who have supported QI projects across Cygnet, delivering innovation and improvements for the individuals in our care.

Reflecting on the conference, Daniel King said: “Our first Annual Celebrating Success Network Conference has been an outstanding experience, fostering an environment of collaboration and learning amongst attendees. The insightful presentations from our project leads really conveyed their enthusiasm and passion for improvement, along with providing practical change ideas for colleagues to learn from and implement at their own site to spread improvement across the organisation. I hope that hearing our project leads share their project journey and hearing about the support available will empower others to become involved in QI and become ‘QI Practitioners’ to lead their own QI projects.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our speakers and everyone from our project teams that presented today, your outstanding effort and enthusiasm really has shone through and made the event a resounding success.”

The Cygnet Quality Improvement (QI) team was developed in 2021 and in that time has been working tirelessly to develop a culture of continuous improvement across Cygnet.
