Every Tuesday morning from 7am to 9am, Jav Razzaq, Service User and Involvement Lead, and Dr Saira Ahmed, Consultant Psychiatrist, join the RadioMAC Drive Time Show to discuss key mental health topics such as anxiety, depression, and how to recognise the early signs of mental distress.
The initiative aims to provide listeners with practical advice on what to look out for, how to support others, and where to seek help during a mental health crisis. Listeners are able to phone in with any questions for Dr Ahmed to respond to.
Jav said: “We realised there was a real need for more open conversations about mental health in the local community, so when RadioMAC reached out to us to ask if we could support this weekly segment, we recognised what a good opportunity it was. We talk about symptoms, support options, and the importance of early intervention.
“The response has been overwhelmingly positive, listeners have phoned in to share how much they’ve learned and how grateful they are for the insights. It’s really encouraging to see the community embracing these conversations.”
Dr Ahmed added: “As healthcare professionals, we have a responsibility to engage beyond our hospital walls. This radio show is a great way to connect with the community, share our expertise, and break down stigma around mental health. Raising awareness in everyday settings like this is vital, it empowers people with knowledge and helps them take the first step toward getting support.
“It reflects Cygnet Health Care’s commitment to community engagement and improving mental health awareness across the UK.”
The pair are scheduled to be on air for a further six weeks, with upcoming topics including self-harm and coping with family pressures.
