A dedicated support worker from Hope House in Hartlepool has been shortlisted for a national award recognising excellence in care for older people with learning disabilities.

Tegan Hutchinson has been named a finalist in the Supporting Older People with Learning Disabilities category at the Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards 2026.

The awards celebrate excellence in supporting people with learning disabilities and autism, paying tribute to individuals and organisations who go above and beyond to deliver high-quality, person-centred care. The Supporting Older People with Learning Disabilities Award specifically recognises those who promote independence, dignity and respect while delivering outstanding support to older individuals.

Speaking about her achievement, Tegan said: “I am incredibly honoured to announce I have been shortlisted for the Supporting Older People with Learning Disabilities award at the Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards 2026. To me, being shortlisted for this award isn’t about personal accolades; it is about visibility for a community that is too often overlooked.

“Working in this field brings unique challenges, but it also brings a wealth of wisdom, resilience and joy, giving individuals the chances to be heard, valued and supported with excellence.”

Hope House manager Jamie Speight added: “Tegan’s nomination highlights her commitment to ensuring the people she supports are empowered to live fulfilling lives.

“We are all really proud of her and it is thoroughly deserved recognition for her dedication and compassion, and her ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional care and support.

“All of us across Cygnet Social Care wish her the very best of luck at the awards.”
