Cygnet has been shortlisted in the Specialist Care Provider of the Year category, in recognition of the impact our Cygnet Health Care and Cygnet Social Care services are having in terms of improving the lives of individuals in our care.
This award will be made to a care provider which can demonstrate exceptional quality care across specialist care, including learning disabilities and autism, brain injury and stroke, Huntington’s disease, mental health, neuro disability, Parkinson’s disease and spinal injury.
Dr Tony Romero, CEO of Cygnet, said: “We have built a reputation for delivering pioneering services and outstanding outcomes. We are delighted our quality care has been recognised and that we are a finalist in the National Care Awards.
“Our focus is always to provide the right support, at the right time, in the right setting. Every day we strive to improve the experience of our residents and service users, and it is very rewarding to see just some of that work recognised in this way.
“Thank you to all of our teams for their hard work in making this possible.”
There are plenty of achievements to look back on over the past 12 months for our Cygnet Health Care and Cygnet Social Care services.
Last year, our expert and highly dedicated social care team of 2945 employees supported 788 residents and service users across 69 residential, supported living and day services. Specifically, our day services supported 85 service users in 2023.
We also opened new supported living accommodation and worked in partnership to provide more suitable care for those ready for more independent living.
We are proud that in 2023, 88% of our Social Care services were rated ‘Good’ or ’Outstanding’, which outperforms the national average of 83% of Adult Social Care Providers being rated Good or Outstanding (CQC State of Care 2023).
Additionally, our service users told us they were happy with the care we provide, with 87% saying they felt safe in our services and 86% saying our services made them feel better and improved.
We know across both health and social care, staffing shortages are one of the main pressures providers face. This is not the same at Cygnet and in 2023 we achieved a 10% reduction in staff turnover and a 10% reduction in vacancies, we used less agency workers than ever and enhanced the retention of our workforce. Our staff networks (Women’s Network, LGBTQ+ Network, disABILITY Network, Carer’s Network & Multicultural Network) are all thriving, helping our staff to feel valued and invested in.
Dr Romero added: “We have so much to be proud of in what we achieve here at Cygnet and there is a promising, and exciting future ahead as we expand our services and help more people than ever before.
“Our staff give our service users hope of a brighter future and constantly strive to provide high quality, safe, person-centred care.
“Putting service users and their loved ones at the heart of what we do is our central ethos and this fantastic achievement of being shortlisted in the National Care Awards is recognition of, and testament to, the commitment and dedication of Cygnet employees.”
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 29 November at the Platinum Suite, London.
