Cygnet Maple House celebrates 1st birthday

Last week the service users and staff at Cygnet Maple House celebrated a year since the service opened with a Bridgerton-themed tea party in the grounds of the hospital.

Cygnet Maple House, which is located in East Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, is an inpatient treatment and rehabilitation service for women with a diagnosis of personality disorder and complex needs. It was officially opened by Cllr Debbie Mason, the Mayor of Rushcliffe, in a ribbon cutting ceremony on 30th August 2023.

To celebrate the service’s first birthday, patients and staff donned fancy dress for a Bridgerton-themed afternoon tea. The party started at lunchtime and continued into the evening with outdoor karaoke and dancing to 90s music.

Everyone enjoyed non-alcoholic pink gin and prosecco and a selection of food including pizzas. Birthday gifts were also handed out to all the patients and staff.

Nicola Mullender, Hospital Manager, said: “It’s been amazing. Everyone has had such a good time, dancing and singing for most of the afternoon. It has been such a success that everyone is already planning what we can do for our next big event which will be on World Mental Health Day.”

The feedback from patients was particularly positive. Here is a selection of feedback from the event:

“It was my favourite day ever, I loved getting ready too.”

“I loved the party and I feel like I have a lot of freedom here at Maple House.”

“It was so good, I absolutely loved the after party and rave!”

“The tea party was a great success, I really enjoyed myself. The pizzas were amazing, I think Maple House should invest in one for more events in the future.”

“Very fun, it was a lovely day and I felt very relaxed. It felt like Maple was a family. It was the first time I have laughed properly in a long time.”

“The pizza and dress up was nice I had fun.”

“The tea party was a good laugh with pizza and dancing and lots of people dressed up. It was nice to see everyone having fun and letting their hair down.”
