Building on the success of its inaugural edition, this issue places a special focus on the experiences of carers and the ambassadors who champion carer rights throughout Cygnet services. The publication highlights the invaluable contribution of families, supporters, and those who stand alongside individuals on their recovery journey.
The original aim of The Cygnet Journal was to provide an accessible platform for sharing good practice, research and partnership working across the organisation. Today, it continues to grow as a space for clinicians, colleagues, carers and partners to contribute ideas, discuss developments and explore new approaches to care.
Dr Tony Romero, Cygnet CEO, expressed his pride in publishing the new edition.
“It gives me great pleasure to introduce the second edition of The Cygnet Journal, a collection of articles written by our dedicated clinicians, colleagues and carers across the organisation,” he said. “This publication continues to shine a light on the exceptional expertise, innovation and compassion that define Cygnet.”
Dr Romero emphasised the central theme of this edition, the essential role of carers and families.
“In this edition, we focus on an area that lies at the very heart of recovery and wellbeing which is the vital role of carers and families in mental health care. The support, insight and lived experience of loved ones are invaluable in shaping meaningful, person-centred care.”
He added that working closely with carers is fundamental to Cygnet’s values and mission.
“Getting this right matters deeply, not only because it improves outcomes for those we support, but because it reflects our values of Care, Respect, Empower, Trust, and Integrity. At Cygnet, we know that care does not begin and end with our clinical teams. It extends to the people who stand alongside our service users every day.”
The new edition features articles exploring co-produced care planning, family liaison initiatives and innovative carer-engagement programmes across Cygnet services. Each piece highlights the dedication of colleagues who are committed to strengthening partnerships and driving continuous improvement.
“This journal highlights how our teams are working to strengthen those partnerships,” Dr Romero said. “Each article demonstrates the commitment and creativity of our colleagues, as well as their drive to share learning and improve practice across the sector.”
Bobbie Turnbull, Cygnet’s Research and Development Lead, reflected on the growing role of research and development within Cygnet.
She said: “Our growing focus on research and development continues to underpin everything we do. By grounding our work in evidence and learning, we ensure that the care we provide is not only compassionate, but consistently of the highest quality.”
“I would like to thank all contributors to this edition for their insight and dedication. Your work exemplifies Cygnet’s mission: to help those in our care, and those who care for them, to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives.
“Cygnet extends its gratitude to every author, supporter and reviewer who played a part in producing this latest edition of The Cygnet Journal. The publication is now available for carers, stakeholders and anyone with an interest in mental health practice and innovation.”
