Cygnet launches Carer, Family and Friends Charter

Yesterday was Carers Rights Day and to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to improve the experience of those looking after individuals with mental health needs and learning disabilities we launched our Cygnet Carer, Family and Friends Charter, making our pledge to support carers in the best way possible.

Carers Rights Day is dedicated to raising awareness about the rights and challenges of unpaid family carers.

The pledge, co-produced by members of the Cygnet Carers Network and members of the Cygnet Senior Management Team, sets out four main priorities on how we will work with carers moving forwards. These are:

  1. Identify Carers
  2. Recognise Carers
  3. Inform and Involve Carers
  4. Guide and Support Carers

David Wilmott, Cygnet Director of Nursing, explained: “This is part of our ongoing commitment to carers to recognise and value the work they do.

“The purpose of our Carer, Family and Friends Charter is to make a positive difference in the lives of the individuals we care for, their loved ones and all those who work with us.

“The Cygnet Carer Charter recognises the important role that Carer, friends and family play in the recovery and well-being of the people who use our services.

“Our pledge shows our commitment to carers who we want to feel valued and recognised. Our Carer Charter sets out how the Cygnet will involve and support carers across its services.

“Cygnet’s overall aim is to continue to find ways of working with carers, families and friends so they feel informed and engaged in the care of the service user they support as much as possible.”

Cygnet is now asking members of staff across all services to make a personalised pledge to carers; our promise to them on how we will strive to make a positive difference each day, to them and their service user.

We are grateful to our colleagues and Carers Network members for sharing their pledges.
