Cygnet Hospital Sherwood hits the right note in record breaking charity challenge

A mental health hospital in Nottinghamshire is celebrating breaking a world record while raising vital funds for Cash for Kids.

Located in Mansfield, Cygnet Hospital Sherwood is a 44-bed service offering both PICU and acute services for men with mental health needs.

Fern and Treetops, two wards at the Cygnet Health Care service, recently took part in a record-breaking achievement, contributing to a successful Guinness World Record attempt for the largest online music quiz.

Across the UK, the event helped raise over £2 million for Cash for Kids, a charity that supports children affected by poverty, illness, neglect or who have additional needs.

Adam Robinson, Cygnet Group’s Regional Lead Occupational Therapist for the East Midlands, played a key role in getting the service involved.

He said: “I thought it would be fun to be part of a world record attempt as we have never done anything like this before. Our service users were keen to get involved. Raising money for Cash for Kids was a bonus as it’s a great charity.

“The event was fun and everyone liked having the opportunity to be part of something so big. We want to do something similar for charity again.”

Both staff and service users put their knowledge to the test, answering quick-fire questions on chart-toppers, classic hits and guilty pleasures.

Each team then received an official Guinness World Record certificate, which are now proudly displayed at the Cygnet Health Care service.

“It was nice to see the reactions of our staff and service users when we received our certificates. Everyone took photos to show their family and friends. The event helped demonstrate to our service users the positives of engaging with others and having shared interests,” explained Adam.

“It was an opportunity to show off everyone’s teamwork and social skills. The individuals we support here at Cygnet Hospital Sherwood were able to work alongside staff as equals and enjoy themselves.”
