Cygnet CEO leads staff team on charity challenge up Tryfan

The Cygnet team on the summit of Tryfan

Last Friday eighteen Cygnet colleagues climbed to the summit of Tryfan to raise money for Action for Children. The walk was led by Cygnet Group CEO, Dr Tony Romero.

Tryfan is one of the most iconic mountains in Eyri (Snowdonia), Wales. It is well known for being a mountain that can only be attained by scrambling up and over steep and exposed rocks.

The team of colleagues from across Cygnet services have raised £10,000 for Action for Children. Young carers often face tremendous responsibilities while supporting loved ones, and this charity works tirelessly to provide them with the resources, guidance, and opportunities they deserve.

The walk started from a parking area on the road alongside Llyn Ogwen. Almost immediately the path climbed steeply from the parking area. A brief respite didn’t last long as the path steepened once again to climb up past waterfalls to reach the hanging valley of Cwm Bochlwyd. Passing the small lake that sits in the valley, the path then wound its way up to reach the South Ridge of Tryfan.

It was here that the fun really began as the team had to clamber up the spine of the mountain, scrambling over large rocks. This was a completely new experience for many of those taking part but with encouragement and great teamwork everyone successfully reached the summit.

The highest point of Tryfan is topped by two large rocks popularly known as Adam and Eve perched on the very edge of the summit. Some of the more intrepid members of the group clambered up on to one of the rocks. After taking some time to soak in the views and enjoy an early lunch the team then safely made their way back down the outward route.

Looking back on the walk, Dr Romero said: “I was incredibly proud to lead such a committed and enthusiastic group of Cygnet colleagues on our fundraising trek up Tryfan in support of Action for Children. For some, it was an entirely new challenge so it was great to encourage each other every step of the way. For all of us it presented a demanding, steep, rocky climb and Tryfan definitely lived up to its reputation as one of the most iconic peaks in Wales, testing our endurance, teamwork and determination.

“The sense of achievement when we reached the summit was truly brilliant. It was a beautiful day and we were rewarded with breath-taking views across Snowdonia and a fantastic sense of unity among the team.

On the importance of supporting a worthwhile cause, Dr Romero added: “Fundraising for Action for Children gave us all an even greater purpose. Knowing that our efforts would help support young carers across the UK added real meaning to the climb.

“At Cygnet, we are passionate about supporting the wellbeing of others, and this challenge embodied that spirit in every way. I’m honoured to have taken part and deeply grateful to everyone who supported us on this journey.”
