Cygnet Manor, part of the Cygnet Health Care division, supports 20 men with learning disabilities and associated complex needs. The service, on Central Drive, is designed to provide a homely, community-facing environment where individuals are supported on their journey towards greater independence.
During her visit, Natalie, Labour MP for Bolsover, toured the service alongside Hospital Director Kelly Shortt and Head of Care Mellissa Greenwood. She also met with Ricky Holland, Cygnet Health Care Operations Director, and took time to speak with staff members and patients, gaining first-hand insight into daily life at the service.
Natalie said: “It was a real pleasure to visit Cygnet Manor and meet the dedicated staff and patients. It’s encouraging to see the strong partnerships in place with the NHS and the local community, and the positive outcomes being achieved for the men in their care.
“I look forward to continuing working together to support high-quality mental health services in the area.”

Natalie’s visit comes after Cygnet Manor was praised by the Care Quality Commission for its ‘Outstanding’ caring nature, with families describing the hospital as “the best one yet”. The regulator carried out an inspection in October 2025, and highlighted a culture built on kindness, dignity and genuine connection, where people and their loved ones feel safe, listened to and valued.
The report, which said the Cygnet Health Care service continuously “places people at the centre of everything they do”, reflected the praise shared by families and those living at Cygnet Manor, who described staff as compassionate, approachable and deeply committed to supporting each individual. In addition to being rated ‘Outstanding’ for Caring, the service was rated Good across all other domains; Safe, Effective, Well-Led and Responsive.

Kelly Shortt added: “We were absolutely delighted to welcome Natalie to Cygnet Manor after such a positive CQC inspection. As a proud member of the local community, this visit was incredibly important to us and a valuable opportunity to strengthen connections with our local MP.
“It gave us the chance to talk about how we work closely with each individual in our care, supporting them on their journey towards greater independence, and to showcase the positive outcomes our dedicated team helps achieve every day. We were also pleased to highlight our strong partnerships with the NHS and wider community, which are central to the care we provide.
“It was wonderful that Natalie took the time to meet with both staff and patients and to tour the service, gaining a real insight into the warm environment we are so proud of. We look forward to continuing to build on this relationship in the future.”
