Cygnet Hospital Harrogate recently welcomed a visit from its local MP who wanted to learn more about the services on offer and how people with complex mental health needs are supported.

Andrew Jones, Conservative MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, visited Cygnet Hospital Harrogate, a mental health hospital that provides an emergency admissions service across two acute wards. He praised the “passionate” staff for the high quality care they provide.

Andrew toured the facility and spoke to staff and service users during his visit to find out more about the treatment offered on site and what a typical recovery journey looks like for the people benefitting from the service.

Gavin Clark, Hospital Manager, said it was a positive visit for everyone.

He added: “It was wonderful to welcome Andrew for the first time to Cygnet Hospital Harrogate so that he could see the excellent work being done in his constituency to support men and women with mental health issues.

“It is really important for us to welcome guests and share more about the work we do here. From the moment an individual arrives, the team work with them to maximise positive outcomes and recovery, while focusing on plans to enable the individual to move on to the least restrictive environment for them. The service is dedicated to providing a high quality environment for promoting long-term recovery and it is great that Andrew was able to see this first-hand.

“We take great pride in what we achieve here and it meant a lot to staff that Andrew took the time to really listen to us and that we were given an opportunity to share our work with him.

“’We want to continue building local support for the work that we do and cultivate positive relations with our neighbours and the local community.”

Talking about the visit, Andrew said: “I enjoyed visiting Cygnet Hospital Harrogate and learning more about the significant support provided to people who are suffering from poor mental health. I am grateful to the staff, some of whom I was fortunate to meet, for taking the time to speak with me particularly as I know how busy they are.

“They are hard-working and passionate people who care deeply for their patients.

“I will keep in touch with staff and service users as I am keen to hear more about their exciting plans for the future.”
