Experiences shaped by the people we support
Residents are encouraged to shape their own experiences and pursue the activities that matter to them. Weekly meetings give individuals the opportunity to suggest outings and events, while dedicated activities coordinators help turn those ideas into reality, accommodating any mobility or support needs. This includes access to five minibuses and a wheelchair-accessible car, ensuring everyone can take part in community activities, day trips and social events with confidence and ease.
Recent excursions have included:
- Trips to the seaside
- Theatre visits
- Cinema and bowling outings
- Plane spotting at Manchester Airport
- Visits to local cafés and attractions
- Attendance at Sheffield’s learning disability nightclub
- Holidays across the UK and abroad
By supporting people to achieve personal goals and explore new experiences, we help residents maintain meaningful connections with the wider community.
The award-winning Social Hub
The Social Hub sits at the centre of life. Co-produced with residents, the space provides opportunities to socialise, pursue interests, build friendships and help shape the activities and experiences available across The Fields.
The Hub hosts a wide variety of activities throughout the year, including:
- Music therapy sessions
- Sports and wellbeing activities
- Film screenings
- Social gatherings and celebrations
The project recently received national recognition through a Housing with Care Award, celebrating its commitment to co-production and resident involvement.
Creating opportunities for local people
The Fields also plays an important role within the Sheffield community, providing employment for more than 140 people across a wide range of roles, including care, nursing, activities, catering, housekeeping, administration and maintenance.
Many colleagues have built long-term careers at the service, providing continuity and trusted relationships for residents while contributing to the local economy.
Building careers in care
Through partnerships with education providers including Sheffield Hallam University, The Fields helps support the next generation of health and social care professionals. Students gain valuable practical experience, while existing colleagues are encouraged to progress through training and development opportunities.
Several support workers have gone on to achieve nursing qualifications, demonstrating The Fields’ commitment to developing talent and investing in the future of care across the region.
