guide the rest of the care team on how to best understand people’s needs.
The psychology team at Cygnet Oaks consists of a Clinical Psychologist, Forensic Psychologist and an Assistant Psychologist.
Psychology Pathway
Psychology input differs at each stage of the recovery pathway:
Phase 1: Getting to Know You
We will talk with you about your life and your experiences.
Your Pace: We know talking about the past can be hard. We will go as slowly as you need.
The Plan: Together, we will create a “Psychological Formulation.” This is a shared map of your needs and how we can help.
Phase 2: Learning New Skills
This stage is about finding tools to help you cope and recovery.
Your Choice: You can choose which therapies feel right for you.
Sessions: You might have 1-on-1 sessions, group work, or sessions with your Key Team. These usually happen once a week.
Phase 3: Putting Skills into Practice
Now it is time to use what you have learned in your daily life.
Moving Forward: Your sessions might happen less often as you become more confident.
Staying Well: We will help you make a Relapse Prevention Plan. This helps you and others know how to keep you feeling well in the future.
Phase 4: Planning for Moving On
When it is time to leave the hospital, we are still here to help.
Support: We will talk to you about how much support you need when you go home.
Sharing Progress: With your permission, we will help you share your progress with the people who will support you in the community.
