The team from Cygnet Hospital Sheffield clinched the title for a second year in a row after winning the final in a close-fought victory against a team representing Head Office.
Ten teams took part in the tournament which took place in Coventry on Saturday 5th October. Along with Cygnet Hospital Sheffield there were teams representing Head Office, HR, Cygnet Wast Hills, Cygnet Joyce Parker Hospital, Cygnet Hospital Hexham, Cygnet Hospital Clifton, Cygnet Nield House, Cygnet Hospital Harrow and Cygnet Hospital Colchester.
The tournament featured a league stage which was followed by knockout rounds to secure places in the final.
In the semi finals the Head Office team secured a 2-1 win against the team from Cygnet Hospital Harrow and Cygnet Hospital Sheffield overcame the team from Cygnet Nield House with a 1-0 victory.
In the final the team from Sheffield celebrated a 2-1 final score against Cygnet’s Head Office team. In addition to claiming the title for the second year running the team from Sheffield also won the Golden Boot which was claimed by Umar Hussain, a support worker on Pegasus Ward, and the Golden Glove award which went to Abayomi Kalejaye ( Yomi) senior support worker from Pegasus Ward.
Lee Hammon, Chief Commercial Officer, and Executive Sponsor for the event, who has been a previous winner five times with Cygnet Hospital Beckton, and was goalkeeper for Head Office, said: “This is now the 16th year of this fantastic annual event. As always, there was a great turnout from across the group, and I pass a huge thanks to everyone that gave up a Saturday to travel and play. The way the tournament was played absolutely reflects Cygnet’s ethos of respect and togetherness – and of course some friendly competition.
