Meet the Team

Stuart Powell - Registered Manager

Stuart is a Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) with over 30 years’ experience. Stuart has a wealth of experience in working in learning disability, mental health and acquired brain injury services; including experience gained in health and social care settings and previously managing Toller Road. He is keen to develop Toller Road and thereby further enhance the living experience of the individuals we support.

Prior to joining Cygnet Health Care, Stuart has worked as the Director of Clinical Services in the independent sector; with his experience and knowledge we are assured that he is well-placed to achieve brilliant outcomes for all at Toller Road.

In his spare time he has found a love of grass roots football and often finds himself being a dad taxi to his daughter who plays for a local team.

Maxine Thorne - Deputy Manager

Maxine has 28 years of experience working in health and social care. She qualified as a Mental Health Nurse (RMN) over 16 years ago and has worked in both health and social care settings. Maxine has experience of working with individuals living with learning disability, autism and mental health difficulties and associated physical health difficulties.

Maxine started as a senior nurse before taking the Deputy Managers position in 2021. She has a keen interest in supporting individuals to live healthy and happy lives and feels a great sense of pride when the individuals that she supports move on to supportive living environments after their time at Toller Road is complete.

Claire Follows - Registered Learning Disability Nurse

Claire joined Toller Road in 2017 as a learning disability student, before returning for her management student year, eventually becoming a preceptor staff nurse.

Within her position she has led and incorporated communication and clinic room support and provided extra assistance with medication management.

Outside of work Claire is a mum to two children who are members of the local sea cadet corps and supporters of the Leicester Tigers Rugby.

Michelle Robertson - Activity Co-ordinator

Michelle gained experience as a young mothers advocate and support worker with Home Start before working as a support worker at Toller Road. She has experience working in learning disability, autism, mental health difficulties and behaviours that challenge.

Michelle enjoys supporting others and helping them to engage in activities including, voluntary work, and holidays. Her goal is to improve access to socially inclusive activities and to promote opportunities for social and cultural inclusion within the community. Michelle has a keen interest in encouraging individuals to be more independent.
