Members of the Cygnet Hospital Taunton team were delighted to recently attend an event to celebrate the success of Taunton Town FC and their championship winning season.

Since July 2019 Cygnet Health Care have been proud sponsors and partners of Taunton Town FC, a partnership that has seen the club’s ground named The Cygnet Health Care Stadium.

The evening celebrated the club’s fantastic 2021-22 season which saw them win the Southern Premier League South and achieve promotion to the National League South. In addition to celebrating their promotion season the evening also celebrated the club’s 75th anniversary.

Representing Cygnet Hospital Taunton were hospital manager, Josh Tapp, medical director, Dr Dave Barker and winners of the hospital’s employee of the month awards.

Attendees at the event enjoyed a nostalgic look back over the season with a skilfully edited video showing highlights of the football team’s season. Guests were also able to see first-hand how Cygnet’s partnership with the football club has helped them to start up and develop the club’s very own wellbeing engagement programme that promotes good mental health to the local community.

Alan Slade, Taunton Town FC’s chief accountant, talked about how Cygnet’s support has been a contributing factor to the club’s success over the past couple of years, and how excited he is to see this continue into the new season.

Kevin Sturmey, Taunton Town FC’s Chairman and Chief Executive, spoke passionately about the service and care provided at Cygnet Hospital Taunton. He also talked about plans to reserve specific seats for the hospital’s service users in the forthcoming season. Kevin also spoke about how 90 minutes of football can help support and change lives for so many people not just those in care but also their fans.

Cygnet Hospital Taunton’s Active Life Lead, Stuart Hooper said, “It’s been fantastic developing this partnership before, during and after lockdown. The club is hugely supportive of the hospital and the service users we bring to games. It’s refreshing that this winning club mentally fits alongside our own ambitions and we wish the club a successful season ahead.”

The evening was a success on many levels and also raised over £600 on the night to help support a local cricketer who is in hospital.
