Information for Carers & Visitors

Family, friends and carers are an important part of our service user’s lives. Our service actively encourages visits from anyone who would like to visit and fully supports family and carer involvement.

We have a dedicated social worker team and carer lead who can be contacted on 01274 686767.

What to expect on arrival

Once at the Main Entrance visitors will need to buzz on the intercom system to gain entry to the hospital. The receptionist will ask who you are visiting and ask you to sign in the visitors book and take a seat. We do ask that ID is provided.

The ward will be contacted on your behalf via reception, a staff member from that ward will greet you in reception and from here take you to an allocated visitor’s room which may be on or off the ward.

Visits may be supervised or unsupervised, this is individually assessed dependent on service user need.

Visiting Times

There are no set hospital visiting times but visits and times will be determined by each ward, telephone 01274 686767 for more information.

We try to accommodate visits on all occasions however due to room availability do ask where possible that visits are booked 24 hours in advance. This ensures that you have an appropriate space for your visit.

Service user agreement must take place prior to visits being granted. Visits will go ahead at the discretion of the Nurse in charge.

Children

Before a child visit takes place the ward attached Therapeutic Social Worker is required to liaise with the family (by telephone, visit or letter) and if necessary with the Care Co-ordinator and the referring team.

A short assessment (verbal or written) ought to be provided for the members of the MDT in order to reach a final decision regarding the visit.

Children under the age of 16 may visit only when accompanied by an adult (who is a non-patient). Visits by children are to take place off the ward in our family visiting room.

Parking

There are designated car parking spaces for visitors to Cygnet Hospital Bierley, these spaces are at the front of the building close to our main entrance. Disabled bays are also available. Parking in this car park is free of charge.
