The Cygnet Hospital Bierley Therapy Team consists of, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Activity Coordinators, a Service User Involvement Lead, and the Healthy Lifestyles advisor.
Cygnet Hospital Bierley prides itself on having a range of therapeutic environments that aid recovery. This includes but is not limited to activity spaces and quiet, sensory-informed spaces on the wards as well as a range of off ward therapy rooms (such as, a multi-faith and contemplation room, social hub, sensory room, gym, wellbeing hub, kitchen and 1:1 therapy room).
Occupational Therapy
The Occupational Therapists provide structured care for clients across all the wards at Cygnet Hospital Bierley. They specialise in the improvement and maintenance of function within the domains of productivity, self-care and leisure. Illnesses often impair individuals’ ability to perform their roles effectively within the community. For this reason, vocational, cognitive and psycho-social rehabilitation are necessary to enable the service user to be effectively reintegrated into the community. Occupational Therapists also aim to support individuals through meeting their sensory needs and providing meaningful occupations that promote regulation of individuals’ emotions.
Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants work with service users on an individual basis in order to identify what areas of daily life they require support with then plan individualised interventions and offer group interventions that aim to address these areas of need.
Activity Coordinators and Service User Involvement Lead
The Activity Coordinator and Service User Involvement Lead roles focus predominantly on getting feedback from individuals on what activities they wish to engage in.
They will support individuals on a daily basis to engage in activities of interest and ensure that there is access to resources and environments that meet all individual’s needs.
They work collaboratively with service users and other disciplines to deliver high-standard events throughout the year. There is a large focus on ensuring the events offered are diverse and meet the needs of individuals from a range of cultures and religions.
We pride ourselves on providing positive experiences for those in our care which we feel is integral in aiding recovery.
Social Work
The social work team provide essential, holistic care for individuals focusing on assessment, treatment, discharge planning and supporting service users and their families through crisis. They are key members of the multi-disciplinary team (MDTs), bridging the gap between medical treatment and a patient’s social, legal, and community needs.
The social work team work within a person centred approach and ensure service users rights and dignity are maintained, providing advocacy to ensure service users are involved in decisions about their care. They lead safeguarding processes, conducting risk assessments that focus on social, environmental, and forensic factors, while contributing to mental health act legislation.
