Mastering Routine and Daily Living Skills
Significant improvements have been seen across the board in the individuals’ ability to manage their daily lives and personal spaces.
The people we support have successfully incorporated new steps into their mornings, such as taking a laundry basket to the laundry room, a key step in managing their own living space.
Individuals are demonstrating significant progress in kitchen independence. They are actively involved in food preparation and baking, showcasing improved organisational skills (e.g., fridge management) and the development of patience during meal prep times.
Furthermore, they have mastered key independent living skills, including pouring their own drinks from a jug.
Building Trust and Improving Wellbeing
Strong, trusting relationships have been formed which has led to life-changing improvements in personal care and wellbeing.
One individual’s tolerance for personal care has seen massive improvements, now allowing staff support for all aspects, including showering, shaving, brushing teeth, and getting a haircut.
A person we support, who previously wore only heavy jumpers and joggers – leading to overheating and triggering health issues – now comfortably wears T-shirts and shorts in the hot weather, dramatically improving wellbeing and reducing health risks.
Individuals regularly take part in household chores, including washing up with staff and taking out the recycling.
Expanding Horizons through Education and Travel
The individuals’ growing confidence is evident in their willingness to take on new educational and travel experiences.
One individual’s commitment to further education has paid off, successfully enrolling in a course at a local college and celebrating a major milestone by graduating this year.
The people we support have enjoyed successful trips away, including extended holidays to Wales in a caravan, participating in on-site night-time entertainment, swimming, and exploring the local area. A notable achievement was an individual successfully completing their first overnight trip away from the home, staying in unique accommodation at a Safari Park with their support staff.
