Dual Diagnosis and Substance Misuse therapy

The ‘Find Your Way’ programme is an evidence based substance misuse therapy designed to meet the complex needs of service users presenting with substance misuse difficulties, alongside mental health difficulties, risky behaviours, and offending.

The programme is underpinned by Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT is a mindfulness-based behavioural therapy with a strong evidence-base (Hayes et al., 1999). The programme also uses Motivational Interviewing and the Stages of Change model, both of which have proven benefits when integrated with other therapeutic approaches (Miller & Rose, 2009).

A strength of our programme is that we address service users’ personal reasons for not using substances. Also, rather than aiming to merely ‘stop’ using alcohol or other substances, the programme aims to ‘fill the gap’ that substances once filled.

The Find Your Way programme is delivered by our Psychology team.
