Bramley Ward is a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for women in County Durham in the North East. The ward is opening in mid-November 2026.
The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for women experiencing a mental health crisis and requiring an emergency admission.
Our highly-experienced MDT work together to deliver a unified, person-centred approach. We aim to move each individual as quickly and safely as possible to the most appropriate and least restrictive setting for them.
Cygnet Appletree have strong links with education, leisure and community organisations, supporting personal growth alongside safety and stabilisation.

At Cygnet Appletree, we support women aged over 18 who:
- Are detained under the Mental Health Act
- May have diagnoses including mental illness, personality disorder, psychosis, bi-polar disorder and / or schizophrenia
- May have complex needs including self-harm or substance misuse
