Cygnet Maple House goes on Holiday

Cygnet Maple House supported four service users accompanied by six staff to enjoy a two-day holiday retreat to Anderby, a seaside village in Lincolnshire, where they stayed in two large villas with hot tubs.

All the service users and staff went out for a meal on the first day, travelling into Ingoldmells to go shopping and had a night drinking non-alcoholic champagne in the hot tub. They then spent the night chatting, laughing, and playing games.

On the second day, everyone went for fish and chips on the seafront and a windy walk on the beach. They were joined by another member of staff with her dog Primrose.

Hospital Manager, Nicola Mullender, said: “At Cygnet Maple House, we are trying to continue to break barriers ensuring we are not only doing least restrictive practices but are also showing the most empowering practices possible. We want to ensure the ladies we support are reminded that being a patient is only a very small part of their identity. Our aim is to enable our ladies to envisage a future, one that is exciting and empowering.”

There was lots of positive feedback from service users and staff following the event.

All patients said they wished they could have stayed another night.

The service users commented:

  • “Thank you for the opportunity, we have all loved it.”
  • “A lovely memory”
  • “The place is amazing where we stayed, I have never been on holiday before.”
  • “I want to go again.”
  • “It felt like we were all one big family, it was so nice.”
