Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke raise £300 for Comic Relief

From 18th– 20th March, Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke held their annual Rowathon and Bikeathon event, raising money for Comic Relief, organised by the Active Life team.

The Bikeathon event was completed by service users, with all 5 wards competing, with the aim of pedalling the furthest distance as a team within a 30 minute time limit.

In a close contest, the wards Nash, Haywood, Knightstone, and the Lodge each gave it their all, but ultimately it was Sandford Ward who topped the podium with 11.2km, going just 0.1km further than the Lodge! The cycle trophy now sits proudly on Sandford ward.

The Rowathon event saw staff teams from across the hospital compete to see what distance they could row as a team in 45 minutes. It’s fair to say this usually gets quite competitive between wards, clinical teams and other departments. This year was another close affair, with Psychology regaining the wooden oar trophy from Occupational Therapy, who finished third. Second place went to the Doctors team, who were denied the top spot by just 20 metres!

With both competitions running in the same room, it gave both service users and staff the chance to cheer their teams and wards on, and created a fun social atmosphere for all who attended.

Red Noses were given out in return for donations to Comic Relief, and much needed refreshments were provided by the kitchen team with delicious cakes baked by service users, from Knightstone Ward.

Active Life Lead Sally Leddy and Trainer Peter Morton would like to pass on their thanks and congratulations to all who attended and supported a very successful event, which has so far raised nearly £300 for Comic Relief.
